Showcase Description

Showcase Title: GEOSS Architecture Implementation

Showcase Description: A high quality video of the GEOSS architecture implementation achievements based on AIP and other ADC tasks by working with StormCenter, Inc. StormCenter has an excellent track record of producing high quality video for Earth observation topics. http://www.stormcenter.com/.

Using the AIP-2 scenarios and StormCenter's resources we would produce a showcase video for the EO Summit. Anything from AIP-3 that we can use we will, but there would be no direct schedule dependencies.

Team: Task AR-09-01b with task leadership from OGC. Video production by StormCenter, inc. a member of the ESIP Federation. ESIP Federation was recently became an Observer of GEO.

Showcase Justification

Add value of GEO in general: An information system architecture based upon Interoperability Arrangements is a keystone of the GEOSS 10 Year Plan.

Add value of ADC: ADC achievements in implementation of an information system architecture that supports all SBAs with a set of reusable components, services and use cases.

Summit Themes and Focus: The implementation of the Architecture shows substantial and tangible progress in the creation of GEOSS.

Cape Town Declaration: Supports this item of the Cape Town Decleration: "We commit to explore ways and means for the sustained operations of the shared architectural GEOSS components and related information infrastructure;"

Global goals and assessments: AIP has been a global activity invovling SBA experts as well as information technology experts. AIP holds telecons in 1400 UTC and 2300 UTC as to include global participation.

Filling gaps, ...: The AIP System Design Process have been implemented and provide for known SBA topics. The same process is now being used in AIP-3 to extend to new SBA topics as identified in conjunction with the UIC.

Strong future GEOSS: Each phase of the AIP Evolutionary Development Process increases the capacity and scope of the GEOSS information system for discovery, access and decision making capability in support of the SBAs.

Link to high-profile issues: The Disaster Management Scenario of the AIP has been responding to disasters based upon the system developments achieved in AIP.

Cross-cutting nature: AIP includes multiple SBAs. During development the SBAs interact towards improving each of their scenarios. The SBAs are supported by cross-cutting technology use cases that support reuse of components and services across multiple SBAs.

Capacity building: Each phase of AIP increases the number of components and services registered with GEOSS. Many of the components are open source software that can be reused at little development cost. The emphasis on Interoperability Arrangements reduces the integration costs.
